Challenging Fear

Currently I am redoing my work space. As I was shopping, I discovered a book and the title captured me.

You see, I have been letting fear get in the way. It had started creeping into my business about a year ago. Lately it’s been hindering me so much that I decided to do something about it. Then I come across this book in the clearance section. Do One Thing Every Day That Scares You. How perfect is that?

So for the next year I will be challenging myself to be fearless. I invite you to do so as well. I have created a Facebook group called Fearless Creatives. I invite you to join if you are a creative, and want to be a part of a community of like minded creative and entrepreneurs.

Let’s challenge fear while supporting each other! Thanks for reading!

Absolutely Incredible Kid Day

So, it’s Absolutely Incredible Kid Day, and I want to celebrate by writing a letter to my son.

Dear Little One,

You spent two hours crying after you were born, but it meant you were here. I could finally hold you in my arms. The nurse brought you over, and said, “Here’s your son.” All I could say was, “He’s beautiful!”

I didn’t sleep at all for the first three days. Not because I couldn’t, but I didn’t want to miss anything in case you needed me. I would get up in the middle of the night, just to make sure you were breathing. Three years later, I still do.

The first time you went to day care, I came home and paced around for two hours. I didn’t know what to do without you. You had been home with me for close to three years, and it felt odd not to hear you asking me to play blocks or super heroes.

I love that you think my name is Kristen Photography. Working from home has been difficult at times, but I want you to know that you can make your dreams happen. Never let anyone tell you it’s not possible. This world is filled with impossible things.

I am blown away by your intelligence. I see you learning everyday, and I love it when you tell me something new. From knowing your ABC’s, shapes, and colors to kicking and throwing a ball. You love learning new things. May you never lose that love.

You are absolutely an incredible kid. I am so proud of you. There is not enough time in the world to describe how much you’re loved. May every day be an adventure. May every moment be filled with wonder. May every fear be trusted to God. May every obstacle be overcome.

I love you, Little One.

It’s The Small Things

I dream big. I see the finish line and want to get there as fast as possible. I want the best of everything right now.

To quote one of my favorite commercials- “That’s not how it works. That’s not how any of this works!”

I have been reminded lately that the larger picture can only be accomplished by the smaller goals. When I say small, I mean tiny. For example, I want to be healthy. I have tried dieting and exercise routines. However, I always quit. I need to start small. You know what? I want to drink tea every morning. A nice cup of healthy tea. It’s small, but it’s a beginning.

In my business, I want a beautiful studio with LOTS of natural light and amazing lighting equipment and only the best cameras and lenses. However, right now, I need to concentrate on building my brand and providing an amazing experience to my clients. My dream studio will be there in time.

You see, I want SO much. However, if you grow too fast, you’ll fall. Right now, I’m content with my cup of tea.

It All Started With a Duck…

When I was little, I loved chasing birds. I wanted to catch one so badly. Birds were just amazing in my eyes and I wanted to be their friend. Of course, running after them with a box trying to catch them probably wasn’t the best way to do so.

I remember my dad smiling and laughing. His little girl thought she could catch a bird by running after it. I kept this up for months. Finally, dad said that if I could catch a bird then I could keep it.

One day we went fishing. A few ducks came around our boat and we started throwing pieces of bread to them. One duck just kept getting closer and closer. When he was directly beside the boat, I reached down and grabbed him. Obviously the duck didn’t like this and was flapping his wings and quacking, but I was oblivious. I was SO proud that I had finally caught a bird! I looked at dad through the commotion of feathers and asked, “Can I keep it, Daddy?”

Well, no. I couldn’t keep it. He got me to let it go. However, this was the beginning. I started to show just how determined and dedicated I could be in order to achieve a goal. This attitude followed me through school in band, color guard, and now photography. I put my heart and soul into the things I do. When I set a goal, I achieve it. It may take time, but it will happen. All through the grace of God.

My next phase of business will be adding portraiture. Weddings are still a large part of my heart. Portraiture will be an addition and will fit nicely into my brand. I am so excited to team up with GlamLex to bring this goal to fruition. Come with me on this journey. Like me on Facebook and tune in on Wednesday, December 7th, beginning at 2:00 pm. I will be going Live multiple times during the shoot so you can see behind the scenes moments. Can’t wait to see you there!

And to think, it all started with a duck.

A Very Special Birthday

Today I get to celebrate my son’s birthday. He loves Dinosaurs, Outer Space, Superheroes, Hot Wheels, and Monster Trucks. Even though I am up most morning before 6:00 am, constantly cleaning his toys just so he can dump them again, and always worrying about his eating habits, I love him so much. I hope to celebrate many more birthdays to come. This morning he came into my bedroom and curled up next to me. I said, “Happy birthday!” To which he replied, “Happy birthday to me!” Which made me laugh, even at 5:30 am.

Happy birthday, sweetie! You are very loved!

Fitness Friday: Recap

Alright, ya’ll. The past two weeks, life happened, and I got off track with updating. I haven’t gain or lost weight. However, I am back with a vengeance. I want to lose this weight. I want to be under 200 lbs by December 1st. Here is how I am going to do it:

  1. ONLY water to drink. I have been really good about not drinking coke, however I am still drinking sweet tea and milk. One day, all I drank was milk. Which is fine if it were 8 oz. I’m pretty sure I drank 32 oz that day.
  2. Eating only white meat. I love steak, and burgers. It also doesn’t help that there’s a great burger place within a five minute walk from me. So, no more red meat for this month.
  3. 10,000 steps a day. I went to the park with my family the other day, and it was when I was feeling down about my weight. I weighed myself the next day, and was surprised by the lower number. Paul said we put in 5,000 steps that day. What?! That didn’t feel like much. So I am going to start using my Fitbit again.

Fitness Friday #8- Success!

Okay, so I weighed myself this morning and am 207.6 pounds. That means I reached my goal that I set. After two weeks of no progress, this was a nice change. Now I am going to try to reach 200 next week. I’m pumped!

But, Kristen, that’s 7.6 pounds in one week! Yes, I know. Here’s the thing. I haven’t been exercising. I will walk, and find activities to walk, but not actually exercise. So, I am going to actually start P90X again. I will concentrate on the weight loss cardio program they have set.

In other good news, usually my resting heart rate is around 90 bpm. Yesterday, it was 80 bpm. 19 pounds definitely takes off some stress from my heart! However, I went to the doctor a few months ago about chest pains. I didn’t think a whole lot about it, but I finally followed up with them this week. There is an abnormality on my ekg. I don’t know if it’s anything to worry about, but appreciate prayers.

My favorite meal this week was Ranch Baked Pork Chops. Yummy! Really simple to make. Take the pork chops and any veggies you like. Place in a single layer on aluminum foil covered pan. Drizzle olive oil, sprinkle ranch dressing packet, garlic, salt, and pepper over the pork chop and veggies. Bake at 400 degrees F for 20ish minutes and then broil for 2 more minutes.

Super yummy! Be sure to check out Deanna’s progress on her page! Thanks for reading!

Fitness Friday #7

Okay, so, I haven’t lost weight, but I haven’t gained it either. I HAVE to start getting active. I don’t know why this is such a block for me. When I was doing P90X, I enjoyed it. I always felt more energized after working out, and yet it is still a major block. I have to get over this. So my goal for this week is to get more active.

Everyday I will choose to do something that will get me out of the house. I must do one of the following every day:

  • Go to the park.
  • Walk the trail.
  • Fly a kite.
  • Go to Mammoth Cave.
  • Mini Golf.
  • Horseback Riding.

Okay, so I have to do at least one of these things a day. I know it’s not P90X, but it will get me out of the house and walking around.

So, my favorite meal this week was Chicken Tortilla Soup. Yummy! Click here for the recipe!

My goal weight next week is 207 pounds. Let’s do it! Don’t forget to check out Deanna’s progress!

Fitness Friday #6- Got to Move Forward

Okay, this week I gained a pound, and I won’t lie. It discouraged me. I blew my diet yesterday because of that discouragement, and I feel super guilty for doing so. This is usually how it starts to go downhill for me. Normally it starts by being hard on myself, then guilt eating which leads to more guilt, and it’s a vicious cycle. Not today. I can’t do this again. Here is why:

  1. My clothes are starting to fit better. I don’t shop often, and it’s mainly because I just want to avoid seeing the high number on my clothes. So, my clothes had gotten a little tight. Now they are fitting better, and some are even getting loose! I love that feeling and don’t want to give it up.
  2. I feel more confident. Yes, a pound was gained this week, but 16 were lost. I am still way lower than my original weight. I can tell a difference already, and it gives me a bit more confidence.
  3. Junk food makes me uncomfortable. If I eat anything deep fried now, I can tell within a couple of hours that my body isn’t used to it anymore. Same with soda. It almost burns my throat now that I am used to water. This is good! It means my body is adjusting to healthier foods.
  4. I don’t want to fail again. I have failed to really push through and get healthy so many times before. The last time was a year ago, and I fell into the vicious cycle of guilt eating and gained more weight than when I started an exercise program. I won’t let this happen again.

So this week, I am going to amp it up a little. Instead of goals, I am going to post everyday on my Instagram my lunch and what I am doing for exercise that day. This will not be on my business IG, but my personal one. Follow me @kristendellis on IG for updates. Don’t forget to check out Deanna’s progress!

I apologize for posting a day late again. My Fridays have been getting really busy lately. Let me know what obstacles you have overcome in your weight loss journey!

Fitness Friday #5- A Day Late, but Successful!

Yesterday’s schedule got a little hectic for me, which is why I am posting this a little late. So, without further ado…

fitnessfridays5aBoom! I am down 17 pounds! My clothes that were too tight are starting to fit well. My clothes that fit well are starting to get loose!

According to my reward system, I am due for a new magazine subscription and a mani/pedi. I am very excited, and I can’t wait until I am under 200. I also can’t believe it has taken me two years to really get my act together.

There is a fitness meme out there that says, “A year from now you’ll thank yourself.” If I had started this a year ago, I would already be under 200 and possibly to my goal weight. No more waiting!

The past week, we have been going to the local park. It has a playground for Gabe and a wonderful shady dog park for Bear. It also has a nice trail for walking/running. I will be continuing this for next week. It gets all of us out of the house and a little more active.

My favorite meal from this week was a recipe I found on Pinterest. One Pot Spicy Sausage Skillet. Paul and I love spicy food, and this was spicy and flavorful! I added all the ingredients up and one serving is around 388 calories! Score!

My goals for this week:

  1. Walk the trail everyday.
  2. Start a push-up challenge.
  3. Start a healthy recipe collection.

Also, here is a before and after:
