Francesca & Kerns- Wedding Photography in Eastern, KY

Francesca and Kerns’ wedding was placed in the mountains of eastern Kentucky in a beautiful cabin. Her pink dress was amazing and made a statement. Oh, and those shoes! <3

This broach was Francesca’s grandmother’s. Beautifully classic.

They were willing to climb on top of the rock! I love adventurous couples!

My favorite of the day. All of us girls still like to twirl in our dresses.

Let me know which is your fave! Congrats Francesca & Kerns!

A very exciting moment happened last week! The billboard that I helped create was placed on I-75!

Here is Megan (the model) taking a selfie in front of our creation!

I couldn’t have done this without these awesome ladies. Megan was an awesome model, and Lacy is a woman with vision.

I Need Change

Okay, so I have to change the way I eat and live. I am starting to feel the negative affects, and I’m only 26. The last two days I have had headaches and been feeling sick to my stomach. Which, if I am sick, it would help to be healthier and boost my immune system, or my diet is just that bad. It’s probably both at this moment.

So I invite you to come on my journey with me to a healthy lifestyle. It’s going to be hard, but so worth it.

Here are a few perks to living healthy that I need to keep in mind:

  • It honors God, because I will be taking care of the body He gave me.
  • I will be a better wife and mother. If I change how I eat and exercise, my husband has no choice but to join me, hehe. Also, this will have a positive influence on my son.
  • I will be a better photographer. It’s not easy to be on your feet for up to ten hours, carrying between 5-30 pounds of equipment at any time. I also am getting down on the ground, up in trees, squatting, lunging, anything to get the shot. If I’m healthier, I will be able to get through a wedding day with much more ease.

So come with me on this journey. I will be posting every two weeks on my progress. Let’s get healthy.

Mindy & Trey- Engagement Session in Frankfort, KY

We met at the Bridal Bliss Classic bridal show. I was holding an Instagram contest- follow me and you are entered to win a free engagement session. Needless to say, Mindy & Trey won! I am so happy they did. We had a blast!

Mindy & Trey met in downtown Frankfort and I loved the thought of their session being in the place they first met. The Old Capitol supplied a beautiful backdrop with its columns and I found an awesome photography location everywhere I turned.

They showed me around Frankfort, and we ended up in a beautiful garden. Even thought the weather was nice during our time together, it had been a rainy morning. Thank goodness, because raindrops are always fun!

Okay, so I just want to say thank you to this amazing couple! I have had the idea of this styled photo for a while. They were completely willing to help me figure out this idea and it has quickly become my favorite!

We waited so patiently for this one, but it was worth it! A perfect photo for the end of the night!

Mindy & Trey were so much fun, and appreciated my goofy excitement when I had an idea for a photograph. Haha! I loved working with them, and the one thing I noticed is that they love to smile and laugh with each other. So sweet! I hope you love this session as much as I do! Tell me which are your favorites in the comments!

Sound Business Decisions

So, when we lived in Alabama I got a phone call from an SEO company. They were legit, no worries. They offered a package to create a beautiful website and work on my SEO so that when you search for ‘lexington ky wedding photographer’ I would pop up on the first page on google. They said this would take anywhere from three to six months.

They did a good job. We had six keyword phrases that we decided to use for my site. Most of them got on page one of google. However, ‘lexington ky wedding photographer’ is still not on page one ten months later. I understand that this is because there are A LOT of wedding photographers in Lexington. So it is no fault of their own. It’s just the way the cookie crumbles…

Something Old-Recovered

Yesterday I called them and asked how much it would be to just keep my website live and drop the SEO. It was simply more than I am willing to spend every month. So, I had to cancel the contract. Now, I have created a new website. I love the look and since it is created on the same site as my blog, the SEO will slowly but surely begin to creep up the google pages.

So, here is my advice to anyone starting a business. Make sounds business decisions. My thought process behind hiring SEO experts was that it would bring me many more clicks on my website which would generate more leads. I haven’t had a single booking through google. I know it takes time, but that is money I could have used elsewhere. Now my site is up and running for $70 a year, which is less than one month with the company who built my old site.

Make sound decisions. Business is a process. I’ll get there and you’ll get there. You won’t be at the top right out of the gate, and that is okay. Reputations take time to build. It is your reputation that will gain you the most clients. Not the top spot on google.

So take a look around my new site!

Lynn & Doug- Wedding Photography in Lexington, KY

The moment I walked into the hotel room, I sensed excitement. The bride was hidden in the back of the suite, and room was filled with joy. Lynn’s dress was a stunning beaded gown. When I first saw her in it, my first thought was how breathtaking she looked. I couldn’t wait until the first look, because Doug was sure to be blown away! The Carrick House was the perfect backdrop for this beautiful wedding.

I hope you loved this wedding as much as I did! Tell me your favorite details or photos in the comments!

A Day at a Time

Lately, I’ve been feeling alone. My dreams seem so far away. My goals seem impossible. I have lost the contentment I thought possessed. Maybe it’s a mid-twenties thing. You know, when you thought you would be much further in life. Life is not easy. Nor is the feeling of discontent.

Contentment. Not only being okay with what you have, but being happy and thankful. That’s hard. But Christ gives me strength. So, instead of complaining about what I don’t have, here is a list of things I am thankful for.

  1. I have a wonderful family. No really, my family is huge. We take care of each other. If I am ever in need, I know I have a great family that will help. This includes my family and my husband’s family. I love them all very, very much.
  2. I have a supporting husband. He has never doubted my ability to follow my dreams. He has never said a discouraging word to me. He’s my biggest fan.
  3. I have the most real parents you could meet. They don’t sugar coat anything, and I need that bluntness in my life. I am a dreamer and sometimes I need a dose of reality. They love me, and they want to see me succeed, and so they show me the obstacles I face when I can’t see them.
  4. I have a wise sister. Whenever I feel lost I know I can call her and she will be my compass pointing me to Jesus. She shows me love and patience. I always feel at peace after our talks.
  5. I have a beautiful friend. She has opened her home to me and I am so thankful. We are roomies once again. Whenever we are having a bad day, we get cookie dough and sparkling grape juice and just talk. She’s there for me when I need her.
  6. I have a small group of friends. These are my friends that I can call, even though it may have been years since we last spoke, and chat it up like we were never apart.
  7. My business is growing. I am opening a new portrait business soon and creating projects as you read this. My dreams may seem impossible, but with God all things are possible.
  8. I have a car. I know this sounds odd, but my husband and I lived with one car for three years. We finally were able to get another car on New Year’s Eve. This has given me so much more mobility to build my business.
  9. I am not alone. I know there are other people out there struggling. Others who are saying, “Why am I not there yet?” Life isn’t a race, it’s a journey. There has never been a specified time for anything to happen in your life. We think that we need to be successful by this age, have a family by this age, have a house by this age, have a best selling book by this age, etc. I’ve slowly realized that we don’t. There is no set time when we have to do all of these things. They happen when they happen. It’s nice to chase dreams, but let’s not give up simply because we didn’t catch them when we thought we would.
  10. I have a mighty God. He never leaves me. Even though sometimes I feel alone, I know he’s there, because he has promised to be there. He gives good things to me when I’m undeserving. He has given me everything in this list of blessings. He has worked miracles, and I trust Him to lead me. I tend to rush things, and He tells me to slow down and appreciate what I have. He tells me to be still and know that He is God. Anything is possible, and He will work it out to my benefit.

Let’s not give up. Let’s keep our noses to the grindstone. I am not alone. You are not alone. We are in this together. Let’s go.

Excitement for My Business This Week!

One of my goals this year was to become published. I want my work to be seen on blogs, in print, and used for local businesses. Two of those will be happening this week!

My work will be featured on The Steel Magnolia bridal shop’s new billboard! Not only will it be on a billboard, but will be placed on I-75! I can’t wait to see it completed! It should be up by May 15th.

More exciting news is that my work will be featured on the Pink Pearls blog tomorrow! I photographed a styled bridal session back in February which allowed me to work with some wonderful vendors!

Now, my next goal is to get published in a magazine. Let’s do this!

Danielle & Matt- A Derby Day Wedding in Richmond, KY

I had the opportunity to photograph this beautiful and fun wedding. Every location that was chosen for the day was perfection. Danielle was overcome with emotion every time Matt’s name was mentioned. Her love for him is truly something special. It was a non-traditional wedding, from the attire (love derby hats!) to the venue (Matt’s childhood home), but definitely didn’t lack in love!
